Volunteer project "Sunny House"
Anyone can become a volunteer, if they have the desire to do so.
A volunteer can listen, support, and provide the children with a sense of need and importance. The volunteers get interesting life experiences, meet new people and spend their free time with great benefit. The contribution of each volunteer is very important to us, because it is together that we can do a great thing – to help people with Down syndrome!
The Sunny House volunteer project is the joint participation of people with intellectual disabilities and university students in volunteering activities. This gives people with disabilities the opportunity to go beyond a limited social circle, express themselves in performing various tasks, increase self-esteem and develop new skills that enhance independence. This project helps the social, psychological and physical development of children with Down syndrome. When working together, volunteers learn to interact with people with intellectual disabilities, join an inclusive culture and form a tolerant society. The Sunny House project creates the very space in which an inclusive perception, a unique culture of communication within the community, and respect for the values of a person with intellectual disabilities are formed. It helps to remove social barriers and destroy myths and stereotypes about people with special needs.
