Integral Study of the Toponymic Landscape of the Border Regions of Northern Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation

Project Objective: Integral description of the toponymic landscape of the border territories of Northern Kazakhstan and Russia, creation of a full-scale database of toponymic material, identification of historical settlement areas of Kazakhs in the border territories of Russia through toponyms, determination of the role of toponyms in the formation of the spiritual and material culture of ethnic groups, fostering spiritual and moral values in the younger generation through the prism of naming objects of their native land. Expected Results: Conducting an integral study in linguistic, historical, and geographical aspects, which is the main distinction of this project from other toponymic studies conducted in Kazakhstan. Summarizing the existing data from related fields of knowledge (linguistics, history, geography), integrating them, and presenting a holistic picture of the toponymic landscape of the studied territories.
Project Description: The implementation of the project involves describing the toponymic space, identifying common and specific universals of the emergence, development, functioning, and adaptation of the presented toponymic lexicon. Based on the research results, it is planned to publish a monograph and a Toponymic Dictionary. The historical aspect of the study involves collecting, summarizing, and introducing into scientific circulation a set of historical sources from the archives of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation. The publication of a collection of source materials on the toponymy of the region, as well as the publication of scientific articles. The geographical aspect of the study within the declared theme of the project involves the publication of a set of maps on the geographical toponymy of the studied territories, the creation of 2D maps (using GIS technologies), as well as the development of a 3D map of a specific historical and cultural object of the North Kazakhstan region.
Within the framework of the project, tourist routes will be developed (of varying complexity, themes, and taking into account the age characteristics of the population). The development of maps and schemes on historical toponymy, which can serve as a guide for compiling schemes of tourist routes. The research results can also be used in the practice of teaching school and university courses, as well as for conducting educational activities aimed at fostering Kazakhstani patriotism in the younger generation and instilling interethnic, ethnocultural, and interfaith tolerance.
